In the starting point I'll suggest to Blooger for we hosting, Because its free and easy to use and also you have to few manual process. Its not better than wordpress but for learning purpose its good also its google product and you will get major traffic on your website through GOOGLE search.
So go to Blogger website and follow below steps-

Modified time to time your pages and update posts, When you get start traffic on your pages buy custom domain from GoDaddy or any other domain provider, and redirect your pages to top level domain.
Also promote your pages social media and used custom themes, configure your websites on google web master tools to improve your blog and rank on google search pages.
Once you buy the top level domain then apply for google Adsense approval. Once you get approval from adsense, Then you can earn as well from blog.
